Paul joined the City in the mid-80's, in a research role with Extel Financial. Having worked on a specific mandate to build a Mergers & Acquisitions database, he ended up working with a client in this field, providing due diligence on potential acquisition opportunities. It was through this connection that he met Paul Killik and Matthew Orr, the founders of Killik & Co. He joined that firm in 1993, becoming Partner shortly after and enjoying 21 years there. During that time, the firm grew significantly and spawned other businesses including 7 Investment Management, Raymond James Investment Services and Killik Employee Share Services. Paul's role at the firm included managing clients and assisting the build of Killik Capital, leading the Research offering and providing media presence. Paul had an investment column in the Sunday Times for five years and is a frequent contributor to City debate on Radio 4 Today, Radio 5 Live, BBC, Sky and CNBC. Paul is a Fellow of the Securities Institute.
So why Patronus Partners? The financial services industry has witnessed many changes over the twenty years or so that Paul has been involved and technology has played a key part, determining the successful players. This will continue and provide opportunity and pose challenges to the sector, but at the core, the need for discreet personal advice will remain. We are keen to build a model that can adapt to this changing environment, building regulatory rigour whilst recognising the need for a flexible and bespoke approach.
Outside work, Paul's passion is sport, less playing now, but with two sons and a daughter, he is spoilt for choice watching. He tries to hold onto some self-respect as the sportsman father, but fears it is an uphill struggle. He lost the swimming race against one son aged eight, and table tennis to another aged twelve. The 100m sprint he is just about holding onto. He gives it a year.
Kareem first became interested in the wealth management industry during Thatcher’s privatisation programme in the 1980s and knew from a young age that he wanted to have a career in the stock market.
His career in the industry started straight from university with a graduate trainee programme at Fidelity Brokerage Services before joining stockbrokers, Killik & Co in 1995. As well as advising and managing his own clients and their investments, his role at Killik & Co grew as he took on more internal responsibility, initially managing an office for the Firm in Canary Wharf and more latterly as an Equity Partner and Managing Director of Killik Capital, an internal division specialising in derivatives. In addition, Kareem sat on several internal boards and committees including the Executive Management Board and the Risks Committee.
As well as being a Chartered Fellow of the Securities Institute, Kareem holds an honours degree in Business Studies and passed the Securities Institute's Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice & Management, with distinction.
Away from the office, Kareem’s focus is Suzy, his wife of 18 years and his two boys, Tom and Archie. If he is not (often, too enthusiastically) watching Tom & Archie play rugby, nothing makes him happier than being stood next to his barbecue entertaining family & friends.

James' life in the city started in 1994 when he joined the Credit Agricole derivatives team as a Junior Broker. Having had his first taste of derivatives, James decided this was the route for him and has worked in the area ever since. His career has included a spell in Vienna and he has even held trading licences for several European exchanges including Germany, Sweden, Euronext and Switzerland.
With the end of open-outcry, the world changed and James was lucky enough to be part of the team that were the first to offer CFD trading to private clients, at GNI. This revolutionised share-trading for both private clients and institutions and it became what we know today.
He first met Richard 15 years ago, and they started working together in 2013. They both joined Patronus in 2015 to head up our Execution Only Division.
When he is not at work, James loves riding his motorbike and spending time with his family.

After graduating from the University of Nottingham with a BSc Honours in Production & Operations Management, Harriet worked for GKN on their graduate training scheme and then moved to London to work for Unilever in their Supply Chain team. In 2000 she had a temporary career change when she worked as a communications trainer, travelling round the world and training people from different cultures and nationalities.
Eventually she decided it was time to stay in one place and took a job as Training Manager at Killik & Co. After joining, she was shortly asked to set up the project office and ran that for several years as well as retaining responsibility for Broker training.
Harriet had some time out to have her family before joining Patronus as Operations Manager.
Married to George, they have 2 young (and very noisy) children - Beatrix and Ernie. Harriet loves running – and uses it as an opportunity to escape the bedlam at home.
